They have thousands of templates to choose from, a drag and drop editor, and search engine friendly designs.

Google Website Builder

Google offers a free website builder that can be integrated with all of your other Google services.










Google Web Sites allows you to organize your website's Web pages into categories.

If you have a series of pages (I wouldn't call them websites) about your favorite rock groups, you can put them all under a category "Rock Bands", and access tem easily.

You may control who sees the pages, and can have a family website that only members of your family can see.

The other Google tools you use can be integrated easily with your website. Google docs can be embedded in the site, for example.

Google Sites, are a website version of a blog. They are not stand-alone websites that can handle your own domain name, you must have them under the sub-domain, but the benefit is that Google does tend to capture the information in its services (blogs for example) faster than if they were elsewhere.

If you are going to create an extremely simple personal website, there are many resources out there for this, here are few examples of those services and their limitations:

Not all of the websites that offer you a free website have ads on your site. Not all of them offer paid services with the goal to move you into them. Not all of them have clauses that allow them to revoke your services at any time and for any reason.

The truth of the matter is that any service costs a company money, money that they must recover somewhere. Many of the companies advertise on your sites already.

If a situation arises where resources are scarce, do you think they are going to affect the websites of the paying customers, or yours?

If they need to shut down someones service, will it be the paid service, or the free service?

Will they give you enough time to recover the files that you have worked so hard to develop?

What if you happen to be doing well in the search engines (something that is pretty hard to do with the subdomain that many of them offer)?

Free hosting services have their place....mostly for simple, personal, site just for fun. A website is not something you just start over. If your site is that important to you, if it something worth taking care of, pay for your hosting. Give yourself piece of mind.
